The story
Slade follows his college girlfriend Gretchen to her family's beach house for the summer and meets her stepmom Holly, who looks nothing like the person he pictured. Her dad Hunter is friendly in a warning sort of way. Then Gretchen's best friend Brittany joins the party, and a tense question about whether anyone looks familiar leaves Holly dangerously close to a past she never mentions. Episode 2 spells it out: Slade remembers a club near Montauk, from before Holly married Hunter, and she begs him to keep it between them in exchange for a surprise later. Then Gretchen drags everyone to the boardwalk Ferris wheel, she's afraid of heights, and Holly gets Slade as her seat partner.
Where the heat comes from
Every look has two meanings: a stepmom with a secret she can't afford, a boyfriend who now holds it, and a girlfriend one step away. Free episodes treat the secret as a favor and a Ferris wheel ride.
Who it suits
Pick it for beach-town summers, guilty secrets and a stepmom who keeps her cool when cornered.
