My Best Friend's Mom Has One Rule

The story

Jake agrees to look in on a friend's place while Tyler is away, and expects an empty house. Instead he runs into Tyler's mother, as surprised as he is, and learns that Tyler never warns her about visitors. She's poised, sharp and very hard not to notice, and she gives him a single rule: stay out of her room. Jake says yes, ma'am, then spends the evening thinking things he shouldn't. In episode 2 the rule gets tested. He wanders where he was told not to, she catches him and says so, and Margot, as she tells him to call her, has a ready answer: the rule only covered her room, not his.

Where the heat comes from

One rule, one door, one obvious question: what's behind it? She's amused and in control, he's polite and cracking. Breaking the rule is the whole appeal. The free part sticks to politeness, eye contact and a lot of obedient nodding.

Who it suits

For people who love a calm, in-command older woman, a nervous houseguest and the delicious logic of a rule that exists to be tested.
